Mephisto (Classic, 20th-Century, Penguin)

Mephisto (Classic, 20th-Century, Penguin) - Klaus Mann Loved this book! It was a little bit hard to get into at the beginning because of the time jump and the fact that there are pretty much next to no likeable characters in it - but it ended up being a hugely exciting read! As a reader one is constantly asked to reevaluate one's opinion of the actor/director Hofgen - is he really a fundamentally bad character or is there hope for redemption for him? I won't answer that now ;). Also, I really liked all the literary references which are strewn throughout the text. A thoroughly enjoyable read :).
